Focus on the Positives

This morning it was raining. I myself do not mind running in the rain especially when I know how much we need the rain. My gardens are happy and I will be happy too!

I will be completely honest if I hadn’t committed to doing a running streak for the month of June I may have skipped my run this morning….but having my calendar staring at me knowing how disappointed I would be if I missed a day was that extra little push I needed to get out the door and I am so thankful I did.

I told myself to focus on all the positives heading out the door. I quickly came back in to grab my hat I had forgotten and then right back out. I took a deep breath….I breathed in the air….it was so much cleaner and clearer with the rain. It was still warm and humid so the rain was quite refreshing.

I was going to get wet so why not enjoy it. Remember splashing in the puddles as a kid? Well yes, I did that as well as jumped over a few pretending they were hurdles.

I left the headphones home so I could listen to the pitter-patter of the raindrops falling and my feet splashing in the puddles. It was very calming and I could feel some of the daily stresses drip away with the raindrops.

It was a little easier to breath as the rain helped cut down on the dust and pollen making my allergies a little less aggravated this morning. There were many things to ponder, many puddles to splash and jump over and I kept my focus on the freshness in the air and how much we needed this rain. It was invigorating.

There is something really satisfying after the run knowing that you didn’t let the rain stop you. My clothes were soaked and my sneakers will take a little while to dry out but they will. I didn’t melt and it was really refreshing….these are the things to remember next time it’s raining and I think about hesitating to get out there. Some of my best runs have actually been in the rain.

It’s important to remember if you sit around waiting for the rain to stop you may miss the whole day.

Whatever exercise/fitness program you are committed to or committing to don’t let a little rain keep you from doing it. You may be pleasantly surprised of the new inspiration you find by staying committed to your routine and getting out there in the rain.

Oh and don’t forget that the rain brings flowers and rainbows…
